How to Replace a Shift Knob on 2006 Cadillac CTS?

A flat bladed tool helps release the shift knob trim ring from the knob when inserted between shift knobs. Slight rotation of the tool unscrews the trim ring from its position. Start by opening the trim ring from the shift knob with a flat bladed tool until ready to remove the knob with upward force off the shaft. A proper installation requires full insertion of the shift knob onto the shift shaft. Reinstall the retaining screw that was earlier removed before fastening it down to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.). To complete the installation proceed with fixing the shift knob trim ring onto the shift knob.
