2006 Cadillac DTS Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2006 Cadillac DTS?
A: The replacement process requires using battery cables which maintain identical types along with matching diameters and lengths to original parts and following the same routing configuration. The process starts by uninstalling the surge tank followed by disconnecting the negative cable connector and carpet removal. Remove the positive Battery Cable cover by unsnapping it and set it aside before loosening the positive cable bolt and disconnecting the cable from the battery. The technician must disassemble by removing the positive Battery Cable retainer from the floor pan stud and separating the positive Battery Cable nut along with terminal from junction block stud before removing the positive Battery Cable retainer from the rocker panel. Deinstallation of the positive Battery Cable retainers (2, 3 and 4) from the body harness channel followed by the clips (2, 3, 4) from respective body harness retainers then finally removing the positive Battery Cable clip from the dash mat. Next disconnect the junction block cover through two tabs found under the hood before removing it. First detach the nut between the starter solenoid cable and bussed electrical center then unharness the bec-starter solenoid connection and remove the bec-positive Battery Cable sequence. Begin by taking off the positive battery clips from their mounting points on the side engine compartment then slowly disengage the positive Battery Cable grommet from in front of the dash. The positive Battery Cable should be pulled from inside the vehicle and passed through the front portion of the dash until it reaches outside of the vehicle. To install the positive Battery Cable guide it inside the vehicle and feed the front section through the front dash before placing the positive Battery Cable grommet at the under-hood opening of the dashboard. Begin by placing positive battery clips onto the side engine compartment before connecting both positive Battery Cable to the bec stud and starter solenoid cable to the bec stud. After securing the starter solenoid cable to bec with a 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque nut the junction block cover must be installed. The dash mat flap should go inside the vehicle first before installing the positive Battery Cable clip on the dash mat while securing positive Battery Cable clips (2, 3, and 4) on body harness retainers. Fasten bulkhead connectors 2, 3, and 4 into the body harness channel before installing retainer to the rocker panel. Secure the positive Battery Cable terminal and the positive Battery Cable nut to the junction block stud before tightening them both to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). The positive Battery Cable retainer should be placed on the floor pan stud while the positive Battery Cable should be directed toward the battery and finally secured with the positive Battery Cable bolt tightened to 17 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). To finish the procedure install the carpet and reconnect the negative Battery Cable simultaneously while snapping the positive Battery Cable cover closed.
