• Q: How to replace the Steering Angle Sensor or Steering Shaft Lower Bearing on 2006 Cadillac SRX?

  A: To change the Steering Angle Sensor or Steering Shaft lower bearing, turn off sir system. Pop off the Steering Column from the vehicle, then the turn signal switch housing, and the turn spring. Take out 2 pivot pins using pivot pin remover (J 21854-01) from the Steering Column support assembly. Next, remove the boot seal. Uncouple the sensor if not present and remove the Steering Shaft seal and the sensor retainer. If the sensor exists, take out the sensor locator and the sensor assembly. For installation, if the sensor is missing, install the sensor retainer and the Steering Shaft seal. Install the sensor assembly if the sensor is available, aligned to the 9 o'clock position and afterward the sensor locator. Install the boot seal and the Steering Shaft assembly into the Steering Column tilt head assembly. Then, install a tilt head assembly and a Steering Shaft into the Steering Column jacket assembly. Replace the Steering Column support assembly if it has been staked 3 times, lubricate the pivot pins using gm p/n 12346293 (Canadian P/N 992723) and install the 2 pivot pins onto the Steering Column support assembly staking in 3 places. Finally, drop back into the motor vehicle the tilt spring assembly, the turn signal switch housing and the Steering Column, then turn on the functions of the sir system.
