  A: Ensure your front wheels face forward at a 90-degree angle while maintaining your Steering Column in the lock position before beginning your intermediate Steering Shaft replacement. Pull the key from the ignition while turning the lock cylinder into its locked position. Install the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the lower Steering Column trim cover's access hole to lock the Steering Column. Lift the vehicle until it's at a safe height then remove the upper to center intermediate shaft retaining bolt followed by the lower intermediate shaft to power steering gear retaining bolt. Before removal disconnect the lower intermediate shaft from the power steering gear then document the position between the upper and center intermediate shafts for future remounting. Detach the lower intermediate shaft from the center intermediate shaft before you take off the lower to center intermediate shaft retaining bolt to separate both shafts. Install the lower intermediate shaft onto the upper intermediate shaft followed by tightening the lower to center intermediate shaft retaining bolt to 30 nm torque (23 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the center to upper intermediate shaft retaining bolt at 30 nm (23 ft. Lbs.) torque after orienting the intermediate shafts exactly as marked during disassembly. Put the lower intermediate shaft onto the power steering gear then tighten the lower intermediate shaft to power steering gear retaining bolt to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). After lowering the vehicle take the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) out from the lower trim cover access hole.
