2007 Cadillac SRX Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2007 Cadillac SRX?
A: The first step for intermediate Steering Shaft installation requires wheel alignment and a locked Steering Column to protect the sir coil assembly from damage. Once you have properly aligned the front wheels with the steering wheel rotation align them to the steering wheel and lock position then remove the key. Set the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) into the access hole of the lower Steering Column trim cover to stabilize the Steering Column. Support the vehicle then eliminate the upper center to intermediate shaft retaining bolt and the lower intermediate shaft to power steering gear retaining bolt. Cut the lower intermediate shaft connection from the power steering gear but carefully record how center and upper shafts relate so installation can be accurate. To proceed you must disconnect the center intermediate shaft from the upper intermediate shaft and remove both shafts with the connected lower intermediate shaft. Disassembler the lower to center intermediate shaft retaining bolt while keeping record of how the center and lower shafts relate to each other. You can install this system by joining upper and lower intermediate shafts before applying torque of 30 n.m (23 lb ft) to the lower to center intermediate shaft retaining bolt. Attach the center intermediate shaft to the upper intermediate shaft afterward tightening the center to upper intermediate shaft retaining bolt to 30 n.m (23 lb ft). Screw the lower intermediate shaft to the power steering gear before installing its retaining bolt and torque it to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). After lowering the vehicle remove the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column lower trim cover access hole.
