  • Q: How to replace the center intermediate steering shaft on 2008 Cadillac SRX?
    A: Make sure both front wheels face forward straight while the Steering Column sits in lock position to stop misalignment which might harm the sir coil assembly. Start by steering the wheels until alignment and then set the ignition lock to the locked position followed by key removal. Use the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the access hole to set the column in place. Begin by removing the left front tire then the wheel assembly followed by sequential bolt removal of the center intermediate Steering Shaft and lower intermediate Steering Shaft. The steering gear connection with the lower intermediate Steering Shaft must disconnect before noting the center intermediate Steering Shaft position against the upper intermediate Steering Shaft for correct reinstatement. Separate the center Steering Shaft from the upper Steering Shaft taking the lower Steering Shaft along with it out of the vehicle. There are two tasks during this step: first remove the center intermediate Steering Shaft bolt while documenting its relationship to the lower intermediate Steering Shaft if replacement occurs. Install the center intermediate Steering Shaft onto the lower intermediate Steering Shaft then fasten the center intermediate Steering Shaft bolt with 30 n.m (23 lb ft) torque. Fasten the vehicle's center intermediate Steering Shaft to both the upper intermediate Steering Shaft and the center intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and apply a 30 n.m (23 lb ft) torque to the bolt. Secure the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to the steering gear then add its bolt and apply a torque of 50 n.m (37 lb ft). After reinstalling the left front wheel assembly remove the anti-rotation pin (J 42640).
