After the Steering Column support assembly has its tilt spring removed use the pivot pin remover (J 21854-01) to uninstall two pivot pins from the assembly. Remove the boot seal. Move forward with removing first the Steering Shaft seal then the sensor retainer unless the sensor is absent. The procedure requires discarding of the sensor locator and sensor assembly. Installation requires installing the sensor retainer followed by the Steering Shaft seal if the sensor is not present. Assemble the sensor assembly first and then the sensor locator and boot seal following proper alignment to the 9 o'clock position. Put the Steering Shaft assembly into the Steering Column tilt head assembly followed by putting both parts into the Steering Column jacket assembly. Steering Column support assembly replacement must occur after three stake incidents. Related gm p/n 12346293 (Canadian P/N 992723) lubrication complements the mounting of 2 pivot pins onto the Steering Column support assembly where staking happens across 3 locations. The installation process includes returning the vehicle components to their place and enabling the sir system.
