2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the inlet Cam Gear actuator on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step of intake Camshaft position actuator replacement consists of removal of the Camshaft cover and upper Timing Chain Guide along with guide bolts. Apply a 24 mm wrench (J 44217) to maintain Camshaft stability while you loosen the intake Camshaft actuator bolt. Position the Timing Chain tensioner tool (J 44217) on the exhaust Camshaft side of the Timing Chain assembly before tightening its nuts until secure. Perform this step again at the intake Camshaft side using the Timing Chain tensioner tool (J 44217) to identify and mark the positions of both the intake and exhaust Camshaft actuators against their corresponding Timing Chain locations during assembly. Pull the intake Camshaft actuator bolt then remove the intake Camshaft actuator component from the Camshaft plastic Timing Chain system. Follow these steps for installation by first aligning the exhaust Camshaft actuator's mark with the Timing Chain mark before fitting the Timing Chain onto the intake Camshaft actuator while aligning its mark with the Timing Chain mark and tightening a new intake Camshaft actuator bolt until tight. Remove the tools from both the intake and exhaust Camshaft sides of the Timing Chain assembly, hold the Camshaft with the 24 mm wrench (J 44217), and tighten the new Camshaft actuator bolt to 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.)use the angle meter to apply an additional 30-degree torque (J 45059) beyond 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.). Finally, install the upper Timing Chain Guide and bolts, tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.)reinstall the Camshaft cover after securing the upper Timing Chain Guide and bolt with 10 nm torque.
