2006 Chevrolet Colorado Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake manifold on 2006 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: The process for Intake Manifold replacement begins with removal of the Throttle Body followed by extraction of the battery box and oil level indicator and tube and disconnection of the Brake Booster hose from the Brake Booster. To start the replacement you must detach both the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector and MAP Sensor wiring harness retainer which are connected to the Intake Manifold. Start the repair by taking apart the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) dirty air tube which connects to the camshaft cover then remove the generator and engine wiring harness retainer that connects to the Intake Manifold. Open the wheel opening to access the components while suspending the vehicle slightly above ground. Begin by removing the upper bolts linking the engine wiring harness bracket to the Intake Manifold. Start by removing the left front wheel along with the left front wheelhouse liner before disconnecting the wiring harness retainers from the battery cable, engine (4, 6) and MAP Sensor. Remove the bracket's remaining bolt and guide the bracket through the wheelhouse opening. After dismounting all Intake Manifold bolts bring down the vehicle and extract the Intake Manifold from its cylinder head position. Eliminate the old seal and protect the exposed ports on the cylinder head with masking tape to stop foreign material from entering the engine. Thoroughly clean the Intake Manifold before inserting a new seal into its dedicated groove. Use a hoist to raise the vehicle and then position the Intake Manifold onto the cylinder head before reinstalling the manifold bolts and engine wiring harness bracket bolts while replacing the wiring harnesses. To install the Intake Manifold bolts you must tighten them in an inward spiral motion until they reach 10 nm torque (89 inch lbs.). After positioning the engine wiring harness bracket near engine components and wiring harnesses you must bolt down the bracket while torquing its fasteners to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Secure the wiring harness retainers connecting the battery cable, engine (4, 6), and MAP Sensor before installing the left front wheelhouse liner and left front wheel while lowering the vehicle. Proceed with the following installation steps for the vehicle: secure the engine wiring harness retainer at the Intake Manifold then mount the generator followed by attaching the pcv dirty air tube to the camshaft cover before connecting the MAP Sensor wiring harness retainer to the Intake Manifold and completing the connection of the MAP Sensor electrical connector. As the final step, connect the Brake Booster hose to its designated spot on the Brake Booster followed by installation of the oil level indicator and tube together with the battery box and Throttle Body.
