2006 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain tensioner on 2006 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: The replacement of the Timing Chain tensioner requires these essential tools: camshaft holding tool (J 44221). Camshaft holding tool (J 44221). Start by taking off both the camshaft cover and the engine front cover. Rotate the Crankshaft clockwise until the #1 Piston reaches top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke, ensuring the word delphi on the exhaust camshaft position actuator is parallel with the Cylinder Head to cam cover mating surface. During camshaft holding tool (J 44221) installation keep safety precautions in mind as this tool should be placed at the camshaft rear section. Apply reference points on Timing Chain links which sit next to the sprocket timing marks on the exhaust camshaft position actuator and the intake camshaft and Crankshaft sprockets. Press the tensioner shoe inside while setting a tee in position to secure the shoe then remove the Timing Chain tensioner bolt and tensioner from the engine. Pull out the engine's Timing Chain tensioner bolts before removing the tensioner component. The new Timing Chain tensioner should be positioned on the engine so install its tensioner bolts while tightening each bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). After you remove the tee from the Timing Chain tensioner you can refasten the Timing Chain. Additionally remove the camshaft holding tool (J 44221) that keeps the camshafts stable. Guide the marked links of the Timing Chain to match specific positioning marks on the exhaust camshaft position actuator sprocket and the intake camshaft sprocket and Crankshaft sprocket. As the last step insert both the engine front cover and the camshaft cover.
