2006 Chevrolet Corvette Rocker Shaft Spring Kit Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Begin the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring replacement by taking out both valve rocker arms along with the Spark Plug. Insert the j 22794 Spark Plug port adapter into the Spark Plug opening and fix an air tube onto it. Apply a plastic face hammer against the valve stem end to let the oil varnish dissolve from the valve stem keys. Press the j 38606 valve spring compressor to relax the valve spring tension before taking out the valve stem keys. After spring release, take off the j 38606 spring compressor unit from the component valve spring setup. Take out the Valve Stem Oil Seal as well as its shim. Before adding the new valve seal and shim change your work area carefully to guarantee the valve guide matches perfectly. Smear clean engine oil over both surfaces of the valve stem and valve guide before fixing the Valve Stem Oil Seal in position until it touches the valve guide. Begin by setting the valve spring on the j 38606 tool and use it to compress the valve spring before installing it onto the cylinder head. Insert valve spring cap into its spot and position valve stem keys into each keyway before taking out the j 38606 using grease for stabilization. Let the keys settle in the groove as you reduce the spring pressure from the valve gradually. Hit the valve stem base with a plastic hammer to seat the keys if they do not settle correctly after the removal of j 38606. Disconnect the j 22794 Air Hose and remove it from where it connects with the Spark Plug. Check if the installed valve spring height is greater than 46.25 mm (1.82 inch). Place a 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) thick valve spring shim on the valve spring to reach a precise height range of 46.25 to 46.25 mm (1.82 inch). Take off the Air Hose from j 22794 and put in the Spark Plug before placing the valve rocker arms back in their position.
