2006 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace Coil Springs on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Start by supporting your vehicle with a jack and lifting it up before removing wheels and tires for the coil spring replacement. You need to maintain grip on the link with a wrench to undo the stabilizer link to lower Control Arm nut then remove the trailing arm bracket to underbody bolts. Cue up a screw-type jackstand beneath the lower Control Arm before using the jackstand to compress the coil spring. The sequence includes removing the lower shock bolt followed by loosening the lower Control Arm to support frame bolt until completion of the lower Control Arm to knuckle nut and bolt removal. Detach the Control Arm so that the coil spring becomes unpowered then take off the coil spring. When installing Coil Springs position both insulators completely onto the spring then apply silicon lubricant on insulators and position part number tape facing the vehicle's exterior at the top. Position the spring with rubber insulators inside the vehicle before compressing it with a screw-type jackstand. Install the knuckle to the lower Control Arm before tightening the lower Control Arm to knuckle bolt to 160 nm (118 ft. Lbs.). Secure the lower Control Arm using a torque wrench set to 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.). After that, position the shock on the Control Arm and fasten the lower shock bolt to 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.). You must simultaneously hold the link with a wrench while installing its nut to the lower Control Arm until achieving 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) of torque. The front bracket requires upward movement so users can align it with body bolt positions before installing remaining bolts while tightening bracket bolts to 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.) torque. After installing the tire and wheel you must lower the vehicle while inspecting the rear alignment.
