Securing the wheel drive shaft bar in a soft jawed vise is the first step for replacing the inner joint and seal. First cut away and toss the small seal clamp with side cutters before using a flat-bladed instrument to remove the large seal retaining clamp which will also be discarded. Push the seal through the broad diameter of the tripot housing to extract it from the bearing joint along the shaft path. Use a cleaning cloth to remove extra grease from both tripot spider faces and the housing interior. After that, extract the tripot housing from its shaft role. The spider assembly must be taken out of the wheel drive shaft bar's retention groove followed by removal of the shaft bar's associated seal. Use a suitable solvent to clean all parts until all dirt and grease is eliminated before the components dry using compressed air. Examine the tripot joint components to detect unexpected wear and cracks or damage before changing any defective components. First apply the small seal clamp to the seal before inserting the inner seal onto the wheel drive shaft bar while placing its lip into the seal groove. Use J 35910 (J 35910) to crimp the small seal clamp for a correct fit that keeps the clamp gap under 2.15 mm (0.85 inch). Fitting the wheel drive shaft bar with the tripot spider assembly requires seating it against the shoulder before you place the retaining ring into its groove using suitable pliers. Place the seal on the shaft bar using half of the provided grease for the lip then seal the rest inside the tripot housing. Place the large clamp around the seal's larger end before securing the tripot housing to its installation position on the wheel drive shaft bar. Position the seal's large diameter over the tripot housing before placing the lip into the housing groove. Use the J 35910 (J 35910) to close the large seal retaining clamp around the seal while checking the clamp ear gap dimension until it measures 1.9 mm (5/64 inch). To distribute grease in the tripot joint the housing should be rotated through circular motions.
