2006 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: To replace the intermediate Steering Shaft you first make sure that the Steering Column has locked to avoid restraint system damage, and take away the ignition key with the Steering Wheel being left in the straight forward position. Start by removing the intermediate Steering Shaft from steering gear pinch bolt (N/A), discard, then take off the intermediate shaft seal from body panel. Collapse the intermediate Steering Shaft, after detaching it from the steering gear, and mark with scribe the intermediate shaft at the place of the connection with the Steering Column prior to disconnection. Remove the pinch bolt for intermediate shaft (N/A) of the Steering Column and disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column; after that remove the intermediate Steering Shaft assembly from the inside of the vehicle. When installing a new intermediate shaft, transfer the pre-scribed align marks to new part, installing the intermediate Steering Shaft assembly from within the vehicle. Mount and connect the intermediate Steering Shaft with the steering gear making sure to replace a new lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt (N/A) and tighten it to 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.). (N/A not applicable) position pre-scribed mark on intermediate Steering Shaft with pre-scribed mark on Steering Column, connect intermediate Steering Shaft to Steering Column, and if it was removed without that scribed marks, then position the road wheels into the straight ahead, align the Steering Column shaft notch as it is in the 12 weeks and then after you will connect to intermediate shaft to what it called the Steering Column here. Finally, replace a new upper intermediate shaft pinch bolt (N/A) on tightening it up to 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.), then press the intermediate shaft seal into the body panel.
