Since its initiation in 2004, the Chevrolet Equinox has gone through three generations and supports a variety of models; therefore, the Steering Shaft plays a Major role in improving the efficiency as well as the safety of the model. The Steering Shafts have to be checked frequently as any problem with the component result in complex steering or: strange sounds while driving. More features have been incorporated into later models of the Chevrolet Equinox; these embrace variant features that augment the all-wheel drive system of the vehicle and include the disconnection of the driveshaft whenever it is not in use; this leads to a reduction in friction hence increasing the fuel consumption. Chevrolet Equinox Steering Shaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Equinox?
    A:
Your first step should be securing the Steering Wheel with a strap for control and Steering Column locking to protect the sir system from damage. First normalize the straight forward Steering Wheel position and take out the ignition key. Start by taking out the intermediate Steering Shaft to steering gear pinch bolt which you need to throw away and detach the intermediate shaft seal from the body panel. Remove the intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear by collapsing it first then disconnecting it. Mark the connection spot between the Steering Column with scribe marks before taking off the Steering Column's intermediate shaft pinch bolt (throw out the bolt). After removing the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column, carefully take the assembly out from inside the vehicle. You must apply all pre-scraped alignment marks to the new component before installing the assembly inside the vehicle where it connects to the steering gear and you must add a new pinch bolt below the intermediate shaft which requires a torque of 34 n.m (25 lb ft). When installing the shaft between the Steering Wheel and Steering Column maintain alignment between their pre-scribed marks. If no scribed marks exist set both wheels in straight forward position and adjust the Steering Column to face 12 o'clock position before pinning the intermediate shaft with a 34 n.m (25 lb ft) torque wrench. Position the intermediate shaft seal inside the body panel as a finishing step.
