2008 Chevrolet Equinox Steering Shaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2008 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: A strap should secure the Steering Wheel to stop its rotation before you lock down the Steering Column to protect the sir system. First secure the Steering Wheel in a forward position then take out the ignition key. Discard the intermediate Steering Shaft to steering gear pinch bolt (N/A) before disengaging the intermediate shaft seal from its position on the body panel. Fold the intermediate Steering Shaft as you disconnect it from the steering gear then mark the Steering Column connection area on the shaft using scribes before extraction. First remove the Steering Column intermediate shaft pinch bolt (N/A) to separate the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column. Remove the intermediate Steering Shaft assembly from the vehicle. When installing the intermediate Steering Shaft assembly from inside the vehicle make sure it lines up correctly with the steering gear. First transfer the pre-scribed alignment marks to your new part. The new lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt (N/A) requires tightening to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Connect the intermediate Steering Shaft to the Steering Column by aligning its pre-marked section with the Steering Column's corresponding mark. Installation of the intermediate shaft without pre-scribed marks requires wheel alignment to straight ahead position followed by 12 o'clock positioning of the Steering Column shaft notch before shaft attachment to the Steering Column. Fasten a new upper intermediate shaft pinch bolt (N/A) until it reaches 34 n.m (25 lb ft) before seating the intermediate shaft seal into the body panel.
