2008 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Rack and Pinion Boot for Off Vehicle on 2008 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Begin boot replacement by removing both Rack And Pinion outer tie rod ends on the vehicle before continuing. Start by removing the steering gear and afterward do a complete removal of the steering gear inner tie rod nuts. Separate the steering gear boot clamp from the steering gear boot while cutting through and discarding the clamp piece. Check the inner tie rod for both contamination and corrosion after removing the boot. The repair should continue when no damage is present. Begin by washing away all grease and debris from the contact points of the steering gear inner tie rod together with the boot. Put 3/4 of the supplied grease packet into the boot cavity's small end while the remaining 1/4 goes onto the shaft where the boot connects where it ensures the boot fits strongly into the steering gear housing groove. Fit the steering gear boot with the clamp's large end loosely attached before applying j 22610 to secure the crank while ensuring the boot's small end remains properly set in the inner Tie Rod End groove. Secure the steering gear boot clamp to the gear followed by installing inner tie rod nuts spaced 174 mm (6.85 in) from the clamp position. Insert the steering gear unit followed by the Rack And Pinion outer tie rod ends back into the system. Before finishing the installation the power steering system should get filled and bled while simultaneously checking the front wheel alignment with adjustments if needed.
