2009 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2009 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: To replace the intermediate Steering Shaft, raise the steering column using a steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock or a strap to prevent steering column rotation, which prevents the sir system from being damaged. Having ensured that the Steering Wheel is fixed pull out the ignition key, then pull out the intermediate Steering Shaft to steering gear pinch bolt (to discard it), and disconnect the intermediate shaft seal from body panel. Start collapsing the intermediate Steering Shaft while disconnecting it from the steering gear, and scribe mark the connection point to the steering column (discarding this bull right before detaching as well). Pull off the intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering column and take out the assembly into the vehicle. If the need be, the new intermediate shaft will have the pre-scribed alignment marks transferred to it and can be installed from inside the vehicle and connect it to the steering gear with new lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt and tightened to 34 nm (25 lb ft). Match the pre-scribedmarks on the intermediate Steering Shaft with those on the strmag colon and connect the intermediate Steering Shaft if the shaft is removed without pre-scribed marks then set the road wheels in the straight-ahead position, match the steering colon shaft roller in the position at the zero o clock position and connect the intermediate to the steering colon before installing the new upper intermediate pinch bolt and tighten it to 34 nm (25 lb ft). Finally, connect the intermediate shaft seal into the body panel.
