2006 Chevrolet HHR Automatic Transmission Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter on 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Before starting the filter maintenance on automatic transmission fluid you need to properly elevate your vehicle while taking standard vehicle safety steps. When performing this task place a drain pan under the transaxle Oil Pan before you remove the Oil Pan bolts from their front and side positions while maintaining a safe distance from the sealing surfaces. Tap the Oil Pan gently with either a rubber mallet or a pry rod after loosening the rear Oil Pan bolts to four turns for fluid drainage to occur. You should inspect fluid color before you remove the remaining Oil Pan bolts and Oil Pan and gasket. Check the oil filter seal for damage using a long screwdriver as you use it to pry the oil filter neck out of its seal. The j 6125-1b (Slide Hammer) combined with j 23129 (Axle Boot Remover) can remove the necessary seal if installation requires it. Before fitting the new seal apply j 36850 or petroleum jelly onto the surface of a new seal. Then place and install the new filter inside the case. Place the Oil Pan Gasket into position while using a new gasket whenever the sealing ribs show damage. The Oil Pan receives cleaning followed by dry treatment and damage inspection. A new Oil Pan replaces any damaged units before the installation procedure which requires tightening bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The last step includes lowering the vehicle and achieving the correct fluid level with dexron iii fluid or equivalent while inspecting for any leaks and performing a second transmission fluid level check.
