2006 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Shift Interlock Solenoid for the Automatic Transmission (Column Shift) on 2006 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The replacement of the Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Actuator (Column Shift) requires the initial step of removing the knee bolster bracket followed by disconnecting the automatic shift lock actuator electrical connector. The actuator needs to be extracted from the ball studs in the steering column. The installer should join the automatic shift lock control actuator to the steering column ball studs before reconnecting the electrical connector. After positioning the column at zero the operator needs to push in the tab on the adjuster block side while pushing down on the adjuster block to flatten the internal adjuster spring and free the adjuster teeth then slide the adjuster block beyond maximum reach from the actuator. Complete the locking mechanism by pressing on the tab with your thumb. The actuator needs inspection to verify it secures the shift lever clevis in the park position; if the shift lever moves freely without brake pedal activation the actuator should be adjusted before reinstallation of the knee bolster bracket.
