2006 Chevrolet Impala Steering Column Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Steering Column Seal on the intermediate shaft on 2006 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step for replacing the intermediate Steering Shaft seal requires turning off the ignition while removing the key to lock the Steering Column. Detach the intermediate shaft seal from the Steering Column before you separate the intermediate shaft from the column. Bring down the intermediate shaft using a stick tool until it collapses and then extract its bolt retaining the intermediate shaft seal. The lower segment of the intermediate shaft seal requires removal from the steering gear before the seal can be taken out. Instance the lower seal onto the intermediate shaft while it rests on the steering gear and then install the upper seal which should cover both lower and upper sections before being directed toward the instrument panel. Connect the intermediate shaft to the Steering Column while installing the intermediate shaft seal onto the Steering Column's surface. Put intermediate shaft seal bolts in place and fasten them to 3 nm (27 inch lbs.) torque while following fastener notice in service precautions.
