2006 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2006 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The replacement process for brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) starts by setting the ignition switch to off followed by cleaning the dirt areas on brake modulator assembly pipe fittings. The first step will be disconnecting the electronic brake control module (EBCM) electrical connector before ebcm removal. A shop towel should be placed under the brake modulator assembly while you disconnect the 4 brake pipes from the bpmv and note their exact positions for later reattachment. First adhere caps to the exposed brake pipe ends to stop fluid leakage and contaminant ingress before disconnected master cylinder brake pipes from the bpmv and capped them also. First disable fluid loss through the modulator brake pipe openings and next remove the 4 insulator bolts from the bpmv bracket to pull the brake modulator valve up from its position. Installation requires waiting until new installation of the brake modulator assembly before pulling out the shipping plugs from pipe ports. Secure the brake modulator valve onto its bracket through the use of 4 insulator bolts which need to be tightened to 10 nm (86 inch lbs.). Use the master cylinder brake pipe ends to connect to the modulator assembly at their original positions after removing the caps. Uncover the caps mounted on caliper and Wheel Cylinder brake pipe ends before removing the plugs inserted at caliper and Wheel Cylinder ports on modulator assembly. Secure each of the 4 brake pipes to their original positions at the modulator valve before tightening all fittings at the bpmv to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Connect the electrical connector to the ebcm then lock the assist lever after assuring the connector has the right position. Bleed the hydraulic brake system and run the diagnostic system check - vehicle without starting the engine through operation of the ignition switch to the on position. The brake pedal feel needs examination after the diagnostic check; perform the abs automated bleed procedure when the pedal shows sponginess. Conclude the task by removing the shop towel then putting it in an approved waste container.
