2006 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2006 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: First disconnect the ECT sensor harness connector when the ignition is OFF before starting the ECT sensor replacement process. You need to drain at least all engine coolant beneath the ECT sensor before starting work. Apply thread sealant GM P/N 21485227, LOCTITE 242(R) Threadlocker, or equivalent to the sensor threads after ECT removal. Start by flushing out the sensor hole in the engine head to eliminate thread sealant residue when you use an ECT sensor which will be reused. Also remove old sensor residue and add RTV sealant to sensor threads before installation. Secure the ECT sensor by applying 20 N.m (15 lb ft) torque. Push the ECT sensor harness connector until you hear a click sound as proof of secure connection followed by a gentle pull check. Add coolant to your engine until it reaches the correct measurement.
