2006 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Vacuum Brake Booster without ABS on 2006 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: First switch off the ignition and elevate your vehicle when replacing the vacuum Brake Booster without abs. Lower your vehicle first by disconnecting the front wheel assembly from the left side then loosening the 2 nuts that hold the proportioning valve bracket to the wheelhouse. Pull the vacuum out of the vacuum Brake Booster by taking off the vacuum check valve from its grommet opening without disconnecting the vacuum brake hose. First take out all 4 brake pipes from the proportioning valve while preventing fluid loss with bleeder valve caps or rubber caps. Unfasten the master cylinder nuts from the vacuum Brake Booster and take away the proportioning valve bracket assembly along with the Brake Master Cylinder unit from the car. Take off the closeout panel and electrical connector before detaching the brake apply sensor from its location. Also remove the two Brake Pedal assembly mounting nuts. Flex the vacuum Brake Booster by a small angle to carefully slide off the Brake Booster pushrod from its position on the Brake Pedal pin. Take out the Brake Pedal pushrod retaining clip and wave washers at the same time. Take out the vacuum booster from under the vehicle. Reinstall the booster into the vehicle in its normal position while maintaining slight movement to match the pushrod with the Brake Pedal pin and initiate assembly without forceful side pressure. Secure the Brake Pedal components such as Brake Pedal pushrod retaining clip , wave washers , and Brake Booster pushrod to the Brake Pedal pin . Then install the 2 Brake Pedal assembly to cowl mounting nuts with a torque of 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Attach the brake apply sensor connector and secondary components before connecting the proportioning valve bracket assembly to its installed position. Attach the vacuum Brake Booster nuts to the master cylinder and tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft.lbs.). Also ensure that the gasket on the outside master cylinder barrel has the correct position and a smooth tear-free surface. Mount the vehicle in the air and secure the proportioning valve bracket assembly to the left wheelhouse using 2 nuts, tightening them to 10 nm. Place the left front wheel back on and lower the vehicle before you attach the brake lines with vacuum hoses to the proportioning valve using a torque of 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Join the check valve with the grommet on the Brake Booster then perform hydraulic brake system bleeding and test the Brake Pedal position sensor.
