2007 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Vacuum Brake Booster Without ABS on 2007 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Before working on the vacuum Brake Booster (W/O ABS) start by turning off the ignition and lifting the vehicle. Unhook the left front wheel to reach both nuts beneath the proportioning valve bracket before lowering the vehicle. Take the vacuum check valve from the vacuum Brake Booster grommet without disconnecting it to the vacuum brake hose to ready the booster for service. Put bleed caps over the 4 brake lines before disconnecting them from the proportioning valve to contain brake fluid during the repair. Detach the Brake Master Cylinder from the vacuum Brake Booster by removing its nuts at the booster then pulling off both parts with the proportioning valve bracket assembly. Unplug the brake apply sensor connector and take out its closeout panel. Two Brake Pedal assembly to cowl mounting nuts must also be removed to access the Brake Booster. Bend the vacuum Brake Booster down so the brake pushrod comes off the Brake Pedal pin without damaging the booster. Disconnect the booster from its vehicle mount. Place the booster back in the vehicle and tilt it to match the booster pushrod with the Brake Pedal pin before putting on the Brake Pedal pushrod retaining clip, installing the wave washers, and connecting the Brake Booster pushrod to the Brake Pedal pin . Thread the 2 Brake Pedal assembly to cowl nuts by hand and tighten them to 15 n.m (11 lb ft) then join the brake apply sensor electrical connector. Put back the closeout panel and the proportioning valve bracket assembly with the Brake Master Cylinder by making sure the gasket around the outside barrel lies flat without damage to its sealing surface. Apply 25 n.m while installing the Brake Booster vacuum base nuts in place. After lifting the vehicle crank in 2 nut connectors to join the proportioning valve bracket assembly against the left wheelhouse space and shake them to 7 foot-pound torque values. Put back the left front tire and wheel combination and take off the vehicle so you can install each brake pipe to the proportioning valve by tightening with 15 lb ft. First link the vacuum Brake Booster check valve into the vacuum Brake Booster grommet before performing hydraulic brake bleeding and adjusting the Brake Pedal position sensor.
