2007 Chevrolet Malibu Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the brake shoes on 2007 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Begin Brake Shoe replacement by lifting the vehicle and implementing support while taking off the tire and wheel followed by the Brake Drum. Take the adjuster spring and adjuster actuator lever out from the pivot unit. Install the j 38400 (J 38400) Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover to open the brake shoes on top while taking away the adjuster assembly. Insert the hook end of the j 38400 into the universal spring underneath the shoe web hole then pull it slowly while maintaining universal spring contact by using the tool to remove the Brake Shoe. Follow the same steps to remove the other Brake Shoe after pulling the park brake cable out from its connection with the park brake lever. When installing the backing plates use high-temperature silicone brake lubricant for a thin application between their contact surfaces. Installation of the trailing Brake Shoe requires the j 38400 tool to enable proper engagement of the Brake Shoe web hole with the universal spring. Proceed with installing the park brake cable to the park brake lever and apply the j 38400 tool to spread the top of the brake shoes before inserting the adjuster assembly and adjuster actuator lever and adjuster spring. Complete the procedure by adjusting the drum brake system before application of Brake Drum and tire and wheel assembly to lower the vehicle.
