2008 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Vacuum Brake Booster (Without RPO LAT) (3.6L) on 2008 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: When replacing the power vacuum Brake Booster (Without RPO LAT) (3.6L) always switch off the ignition first. Clean up any dirt from the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) tube attachment points. Put a shop towel underneath the bpmv to contain leaking brake fluid while you disconnect the ebcm electrical connector. Seal each brake line using caps while you disconnect rf, lr, rr, and lf brake pipes and block fluid exit at the bpmv outlet port. Take out the vacuum check valve from the vacuum Brake Booster grommet. Lift up the car and take off both the tire and wheel from left front side. Take away the 3 bpmv bracket nuts while the vehicle is on the ground and then uninstall the master cylinder nuts . You will remove the master cylinder unit by unpicking the whole assembly of ebcm/bpmv and bracket. Loosen and discard the insulator panel for the left side instrument panel and disconnect the Brake Pedal position sensor connector after removing its 2 nuts on top of removing the pedal assembly nuts. To access the Brake Pedal pushrod separate the pedal pushrod retainer clip, wave washers, and disconnect the pushrod from its pin on the pedal pivot point. Position the vacuum Brake Booster upward then take it out from the vehicle without forcing the pushrod side-to-side movement. When installing the vacuum Brake Booster move it into position and apply and tighten the two Brake Pedal assembly nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Add the wave washers to the assembly and attach the Brake Pedal pushrod smoothly to the pedal pivot pin without forcing it. Put back the Brake Pedal position sensor electrical connector and add the Brake Pedal pushrod retainer clip before connecting it to the pedal. Put the left side instrument panel insulator back in place and look for damage on the master cylinder seal during examination. Replace it when detected. Mount the master cylinder over the ebcm/bpmv bracket assembly and tighten the nuts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Support the car once more then thread in the 3 bpmv bracket nuts with 10 n.m torque settings and attach the left front wheel and tire assembly when the vehicle rests on the ground. Use a small drop of denatured alcohol to lube the vacuum check valve when installing it into the vacuum Brake Booster grommet. Join each side brake pipe using the lf, rr, lr, and rf connections. Verify your work when you tighten these fittings to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). When connecting the electrical connector to the ebcm make sure you do it correctly before you position the locking lever to prevent communication failure. Plug in the ebcm connector then release the pressured brake system and set the Brake Pedal position sensor.
