2009 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Vacuum Brake Booster (Without RPO LAT) for 2.4L Non Hybrid and 3.6L engines on 2009 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Before starting work on the power vacuum Brake Booster (Without RPO LAT) for 2.4l non hybrid and 3.6l engines turn the ignition switch to off. Separate the radiator surge tank from its position without emptying the cooling system or unfettering the hose connections. Take off the power vacuum Brake Booster electrical connector from the electronic brake control module before you clean all brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) pipe fitting areas. Place a shop towel under the bpmv to collect brake fluid. Disconnect rf, lr, rr, and lf brake pipes plus install protective caps while plugging the bpmv outlet port. You can reduce the reserve vacuum in the Brake Booster through its vacuum check valve when you pull it out from the grommet. Lift the car and take off the left front tire and wheel unit. Lower the vehicle by taking out the three bpmv bracket nuts and then remove the master cylinder bolts. The master cylinder should be unbolted together with the ebcm/bpmv and bracket unit. Detach the Brake Pedal position sensor connector after taking out the left side instrument panel insulator panel. Take out the Brake Pedal assembly nuts and wave washers while also removing the Brake Pedal pushrod retainer clip, and detach the Brake Pedal pushrod from its pedal pivot pin. Raise the vacuum Brake Booster at an angle to pull it out from the vehicle space. After placing the vacuum Brake Booster on its assigned position, bolt the Brake Pedal assembly nuts at 15 nm (11 lb ft), apply wave washers, join the Brake Pedal pushrod to the pedal pivot pin, but avoid when forced side pushes. Reattach the Brake Pedal position sensor electronics as you place the Brake Pedal pushrod retainer clip back in place. First fit back the left instrument panel insulator panel then examine the master cylinder seal for breaks and get a new one when needed before putting the master cylinder and ebcm/bpmv bracket assembly. Support the vehicle and tighten the 3 bpmv bracket nuts to 10 nm (89 lb in). Then install and raise the 3 nuts on the master cylinder after torquing them to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Put back the left front tire and wheel setup under the vehicle before installing the vacuum check valve at the vacuum Brake Booster port. Add some denatured alcohol if needed for lubrication. Attach the brake pipe fittings for lf, rr, lr, and rf then tighten all of them to 20 nm (15 lb.ft). Connect the ebcm electrical cable only when it engages fully with its port. After you put in the radiator surge tank perform standard hydraulic brake system bleaching and adjust Brake Pedal position sensor settings.
