2008 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on 2008 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: You should check the brake master cylinder before replacing rear disc brake pads. No fluid needs to be drained because the reservoir contains enough fluid between its minimum and maximum points. Lift the vehicle until stable then take off both tire and wheel pieces. Put the caliper piston inside the bore with a large c-clamp while keeping piston travel under 1 mm to stop internal damage. Keep brake caliper suspension during guide pin bolt removal by using heavy mechanic wire on the piston before freeing it from the c-clamp. Turn the brake caliper upward and take out both brake pads and retaining clips from their position on the mounting bracket. Check brake parts for damage and rust then replace all faulty elements. When checking the Brake Caliper Piston boot quality replace it if damage is found before inserting the piston into the bore using a piston installation tool. Fit the Brake Pad retainers and brake pads onto the mounting bracket before placing the caliper over them. Secure the caliper with a guide pin bolt at 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Put back the tire and wheel then lower the car before gently pressing the brake pedal to two-thirds and slowly releasing it while the engine stays off. Continue performing the brake pedal process until you obtain a strong feedback indicating the right positioning of brake pads and caliper pistons. After completing setup end by filling the brake reservoir with fluid and using park brake lever four times before burning in rotor and pads.
