The first step to replace thermostat bypass pipes requires draining the cooling system. Start by taking off first the throttle body air inlet duct followed by the Spark Plug Wires at the left bank. Preventative maintenance starts with using hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to move the hose clamp at the Thermostat Housing before you disconnect the upper Radiator Hose from the housing. Connectors and the nut that joins the thermostat bypass pipe to the throttle body must be removed. Use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to move the hose clamp at the thermostat bypass pipe position before removing the thermostat bypass pipe hose. Afterward remove the thermostat bypass pipe-to-engine front cover bolt to extract the thermostat bypass pipe from the engine. Install the thermostat bypass pipe into position while adding the thermostat bypass pipe-to-engine front cover bolt at 11 nm torque (98 inch lbs). Secure the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) when applying the thermostat bypass pipe hose to the thermostat bypass pipe position. Secure the thermostat bypass pipe to its mount on the throttle body while torquing the attaching nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The heater outlet hose requires attachment to the thermostat bypass pipe using hose clamp pliers (J 38185) before connecting the inlet hose at the Thermostat Housing. Position the Spark Plug Wires at the left bank after mounting the air cleaner assembly. Deplete the vehicle's cooling system before filling up the components and checking for any leakage.
