2006 Chevrolet SSR Brake Calipers Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to perform a front Brake Calipers overhaul on 2006 Chevrolet SSR?
A: You need j 8092 driver handle (J 8092) and j 43885 boot seal installer (J 43885) to dismantle and rebuild the front brake caliper. Start by removing all brake fluid from the caliper then protect its surface using clean shop towels. Never insert your fingers into the Piston area when you use compressed air to prevent serious injuries from occurring. Apply light air pressure to gently push the Piston into position since hard blowing can hurt a damaged Piston-part. After taking out the pistons from their space you should remove the boots and Piston seals by handling them with care to prevent damaging the caliper bores. First take off the caliper bleeder valve cap and valve at the housing's end. Use pure denatured alcohol to wipe clean all parts of the bleed valve along with the Piston seals, bores, passages, and calipers before making sure to remove any remaining brake fluid. Replace Piston sets or the entire caliper when brake system damage appears on the chrome plating surface but has not gone past pitting. Apply clean brake fluid on all new parts including Piston seals caliper bores and pistons before putting the Piston seals in place without twisting them. Push the Piston seals into the Piston bores before placing the pistons in their specific caliper holes. Fit the bleeder valve into the caliper housing space before nutting it to 12 nm torque. Afterwards add the bleeder valve cap. Put the j 8092 and j 43885 tooling to install the boot seals inside the caliper housing bores.
