    Q:
How to replace the rear brake calipers on Chevrolet SSR? Posted by Customer
    A:
The brake caliper change begins with a car lift and subsequent tire and wheel removal. Begin by removing the rear brake caliper brake hose bolt then seal the brake hose opening with a plug to stop the loss of excessive brake fluid and contamination. Remove and discard the copper gaskets before removing the brake hose bolt. After removing the mounting bolts on the rear brake caliper you can completely detach it from the mounting bracket. Use clean denatured alcohol to clean the guide pin and dry it with filtered non-lubricated air before application of high temperature silicone brake lubricant. Position the high temperature silicone brake lubricant on the guide pin while making sure to skip the brake pad hardware area before mounting the rear brake caliper assembly to its fixture bracket. Torque the brake caliper guide pins to 31 Nm while measuring in units of 23 ft. lbs. Place new copper gaskets at the brake hose bolt installation points. Insert the brake hose bolt into the rear brake caliper before securing it with a torque of 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). The hydraulic brake bleeding is performed before you reinstall the tire and wheel assembly while lowering the vehicle.
