How to replace the rear brake calipers on 2003 Chevrolet SSR?

A safety precaution starts when the vehicle reaches sufficient height for tire removal. First detach the rear brake hose bolt from the rear brake caliper before plugging the brake hose's opening to stop brake fluid loss and contamination. Clear the brake hose bolt from copper gaskets before pulling the brake hose bolt away from the mounting bracket. After removing the rear brake caliper mounting bolts you can take out the rear brake caliper from its mounting bracket. Guide pins for brake calipers that will be reused must receive denatured alcohol cleaning before filtration with lubricant-free dried air. Use high temperature silicone brake lubricant on the guide pin but keep it away from brake pad hardware areas. Fit the rear brake caliper assembly to the mounting bracket before torquing the brake caliper guide pins to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Use new copper gaskets on the brake hose bolt before disconnecting the brake hose end plug to attach the brake hose bolt to the rear brake caliper where you must tighten it to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque. After bleeding the hydraulic brake system, replace the tire and wheel assembly, then bring the vehicle back to ground position.
