2006 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the valve rocker arm and push rods on 2006 Chevrolet SSR?
A: Start the valve Rocker Arm and push rod replacement process by taking off the valve Rocker Arm cover from both left and right sides of the engine. The rocker arms will stay reused so record their original position for future reassembly. The next step involves the removal of Rocker Arm bolts followed by rocker arms and finally the Rocker Arm pivot support. The marks for pushrod location must be applied before using them a second time. Then, remove the pushrods. The installation process requires clean engine oil for lubricating the valve rocker arms along with pushrods and the valve Rocker Arm bolt flange. The valve Rocker Arm pivot support should be installed next while the pushrods should engage their respective sockets in the valve lifter before pushing the pushrods down to their installed positions on the Rocker Arm ends without tightening the Rocker Arm bolts at this time. You must install the rocker arms along with their bolts before rotating the Crankshaft until the number one Piston reaches the compression stroke tdc position. Ensure the cylinder number one rocker arms remain off their lift profile and the Crankshaft sprocket key points to the 1:30 position. Tighten the valve Rocker Arm bolts on cylinders 1, 2, 7 and 8 exhaust to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) while cylinder 1,3,4, 5 intake bolts should also get tightened to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) during engine number one firing position. When the Crankshaft rotates 360 degrees the valve Rocker Arm bolts should be tightened to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) on cylinders 3, 4, 5, 6 exhaust but 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) on cylinders 2, 6, 7, 8 intake. Install the valve Rocker Arm cover to both positions of the left and right sides for a final step.
