2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The crankshaft balancer replacement process begins by taking off cooling fan and shroud and Drive Belt in sequence. The crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2) should now be installed at the crankshaft end through proper fitment without touching the outer region of the crankshaft balancer. A 3 jaw puller enables removal of the crankshaft balancer after which you should extract both the puller and the crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2). The crankshaft snout requires cleaning after removing its balancer shim to evaluate the balancer condition. Rise the vehicle and extract the torque converter access plug from inside the dry segment of the Oil Pan. When installing the new crankshaft balancer clamp torque down the torque converter using the tool from crankshaft balancer remover/holder kit (J 44226). Seam the new crankshaft balancer shim gm p/n 12573950 onto the crankshaft snout against the Crankshaft Gear by using the crankshaft front oil seal installer (J 41478). The procedure begins with the removal of crankshaft front oil seal installer (J 41478) tool while maintaining grip on the flywheel for the next steps. Install the balancer washer followed by the bolt then utilize torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to torque the balancer bolt to an extra 180 degrees. The last step includes removing the torque converter holding tool followed by reinstallation of the torque converter access plug into the Oil Pan. Then lower the vehicle before reinstalling the Drive Belt and cooling fan and shroud.
