    Q:
How to replace the harmonic balancer on Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
    A:
The crankshaft balancer replacement process begins by taking off cooling fan and shroud and Drive Belt in sequence. The crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2) should now be installed at the crankshaft end through proper fitment without touching the outer region of the crankshaft balancer. A 3 jaw puller enables removal of the crankshaft balancer after which you should extract both the puller and the crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2). The crankshaft snout requires cleaning after removing its balancer shim to evaluate the balancer condition. Rise the vehicle and extract the torque converter access plug from inside the dry segment of the Oil Pan. When installing the new crankshaft balancer clamp torque down the torque converter using the tool from crankshaft balancer remover/holder kit (J 44226). Seam the new crankshaft balancer shim gm p/n 12573950 onto the crankshaft snout against the Crankshaft Gear by using the crankshaft front oil seal installer (J 41478). The procedure begins with the removal of crankshaft front oil seal installer (J 41478) tool while maintaining grip on the flywheel for the next steps. Install the balancer washer followed by the bolt then utilize torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to torque the balancer bolt to an extra 180 degrees. The last step includes removing the torque converter holding tool followed by reinstallation of the torque converter access plug into the Oil Pan. Then lower the vehicle before reinstalling the Drive Belt and cooling fan and shroud.

    Q:
How to replace the harmonic balancer on GMC Envoy? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process of the crankshaft balancer begins by removing both the Radiator and the Drive Belt. The maintenance team needs to unscrew the balancer bolt while throwing it away and follow by taking out the service slot plug. The crankshaft balancer instability results from its lack of key-way so it could spin during tightening which creates improper torque. Lower the vehicle by placing the en 46547 (Flywheel Holding Tool) between Flywheel teeth. You can remove the balancer by using j 41816-2 (Crankshaft End Protector) and j 41816-a (Crankshaft Balancer Remover). Keep the outer rim of the crankshaft balancer free from pulling forces during the process. Remove the crankshaft balancer shim from the crankshaft snout by taking away the puller along with j 41816-a. The crankshaft balancer needs cleaning while an inspection occurs. Install the new crankshaft balancer shim gm p/n 12578073 by raising the vehicle at a specific height before setting the shim directly against the crankshaft gear on the crankshaft snout. The en-48034 (Harmonic Balancer installer) enables installation and seating of the crankshaft balancer before removing the tool. Position the Flywheel and put in the balancer washer along with a new bolt before torquing it to 150 nm (110 lb ft). The j 45059 (Torque Angle Meter) should be utilized to tighten the balancer bolt 180 degrees past initial torque specifications. First remove the torque converter holding tool then install the torque converter access plug into the Oil Pan and lower the vehicle before reinstallation of both the Drive Belt and Radiator.
