  A: The replacement of the crankshaft balancer requires specific tools that include torque angle meter (J 36660-A), crankshaft front oil seal installer (J 41478), crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2) and crankshaft balancer remover/holder (J 44226). Start by taking off the cooling fan together with the shroud after removing the Drive Belt. After removing the balancer bolt install the crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2) at the crankshaft end while avoiding a pull on the outer balancer section. A 3 jaw puller removes the crankshaft balancer before you remove both the puller along with the crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2). Clean up the balancer while removing its shim from the crankshaft snout before starting the examination process. After raising the vehicle locate and remove the Torque Converter access plug which is present on the Oil Pan. Securely fasten the Torque Converter to the holding tool of the crankshaft balancer remover/holder (J 44226) before tightening the balancer. Fasten a new crankshaft balancer shim gm p/n 12573950 over the crankshaft snout facing the crankshaft gear prior to seating the balancer with the crankshaft front oil seal installer (J 41478). Attach the crankshaft front oil seal installer (J 41478) on the Flywheel before adding the balancer washer with bolt and tightening with 150 n.m (110 lb ft). Continue the installation by using the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) for an additional 180-degree torque. The last step includes the removal of the Torque Converter holding tool followed by Torque Converter access plug reinstallation and then a vehicle lower and Drive Belt and cooling fan and shroud reinstallation.
