2006 Chevrolet Uplander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on 2006 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: Starting to replace the shift cable requires initial removal of the throttle body air inlet duct. Use a flat-bladed tool to free the retaining clip on the shift cable followed by inserting a large flat-bladed tool to separate the shift cable from its cable lever. Placing pliers to depress cable retainers enables shift cable extraction from the shift cable bracket. Begin by removing the knee bolster along with the retaining clip that secures the shift cable. Next detach the shift cable one by one from the column control lever and steering column bracket. Use pliers to draw the shift cable through the hole found in the cowl. Proper installation requires running the shift cable through the engine compartment before passing it through the cowl to connect with the steering column bracket. Install the retaining clip on the shift cable near its end and next connect the cable to the column control lever. After reinstalling the knee bolster you must attach one end of the shift cable to the shift cable bracket and fasten the other end to the shift lever. Complete installation by tightening the retaining clip against the shift cable then adjust the cable before reinstalling the throttle body air inlet duct.
