Shift Control Cable

The first step to replace the automatic transmission shift cable requires removal of the throttle body air inlet duct. Start by taking off the retaining clip from the automatic transaxle shift cable using flat-bladed tool then use another flat-bladed tool to remove the automatic transaxle shift cable from the cable lever. Depressing the retainers with pliers allows removal of the automatic transaxle shift cable from its bracket on the automatic transaxle shift cable bracket. Your first task should be removing the knee bolster and next you should remove the retaining clip from the automatic transaxle shift cable. Remove the automatic transaxle shift cable from column control lever after pulling it through the steering column bracket by the hole in the cowl. Put the automatic transaxle shift cable through the proper route in the engine compartment before inserting it through the cowl opening. Attaching the cable involves securing it to the steering column bracket through the retaining clip that belongs to the automatic transaxle shift cable. Fit the automatic transaxle shift cable to the column control lever while reattaching the knee bolster before braiding the cable to the automatic transaxle shift cable bracket. Complete the task by connecting the automatic transaxle shift cable to the automatic transaxle shift lever then reinforce it with the retaining clip on the automatic transaxle shift cable before performing cable adjustment then reinstalling the throttle body air inlet duct.

The replacement process of a shift cable starts with removing the throttle body air inlet duct. Proceed with removing the retaining clip from the shift cable using a flat-bladed tool before removing the cable from the cable lever using a large flat-bladed tool. Using pliers to depress the cable retainers allows the removal of the cable from the shift cable bracket. Next, remove the knee bolster. Start by removing the console trim plate when the vehicle has console shift and then take out the transaxle shift cable from the floor shift control. The cable installation for column shift begins with a retaining clip removal followed by cable detachment from the column control lever using a flat-bladed tool before removing it from the steering column bracket. The cable should be pulled out through the opening in the cowl. Place the cable correctly inside the engine compartment before installing it into the cowl. To install the cable for a column shift you should first connect it to the steering column bracket and then use the retaining clip to secure it before attaching its other end to the column control lever. The transaxle shift cable needs to connect to floor shift control when working on vehicles that have console shift and then reinstall console trim plate. Upon completion connect the shift cable bracket to its lever using the retaining clip followed by an adjustment of the cable before reinstalling the knee bolster then reinstalling the throttle body air inlet duct.

Route link cable through the shift lever before securing it with retaining clip on the cable. You need to adjust the cable before reinstalling the throttle body air inlet duct.

Remove the knee bolster.

Pull the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the cowl.

Route the automatic transaxle range selector cable properly through the engine compartment and insert it through the cowl.

Depress the cable retainers with pliers and remove the cable from the bracket.
