2006 Chevrolet Uplander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the steering knuckle in the rear suspension on 2006 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: The first step to replace the Steering Knuckle on the rear suspension is to lift and secure the vehicle and then to remove the rear wheel. Then, you need to unpin the brake caliper without disconnecting the brake hose and suspend it, pull out the Brake Caliper Bracket and the brake rotor, then pull it out. Separate the Tie Rod from the knuckle, the stabilizer shaft linkage with the lower Control Arm, and the drive axle from the Wheel Bearing/hub. Put the park brake cable and its bracket to one side, remove the Wheel Bearing and backing plate. Support the lower Control Arm with a utility stand, remove the height sensor link from the lower Control Arm and remove the shock absorber from the lower Control Arm, remove the upper Control Arm from the knuckle. Use the Ball Joint/stud separator (J 41820) to detach the lower Ball Joint from the knuckler, remove the knuckle from the vehicle and wheel speed sensor connector bracket from the knuckle. For installation, mount the wheel speed sensor connector bracket to the knuckle, fit the bracket bolt and nut and tighten the nut to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Reinstall the knuckle, attach the lower Ball Joint to the knuckle and tighten the nut to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.) plus 130 degrees, and then reconnecting the upper Control Arm on the lower Control Arm along with the shock absorber to the lower Control Arm. Reconnect the height sensor link if necessary, place the backing plate and Wheel Bearing, connect the drive axle to the Wheel Bearing/hub, connect the stabilizer shaft link and the Tie Rod to the knuckle. Finally, prepare brake rotor, brake caliper bracket, brake caliper, rear wheel, and lower the vehicle.
