2006 Chevrolet Uplander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2006 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: The process begins by straightening front wheels and locking the Steering Column with the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640). The vehicle requires elevation before setup. You must position the intermediate Steering Shaft seal to access the lower pinch bolt. Then remove the lower pinch bolt from the power steering gear stub shaft and disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft from the stub shaft. Lower your vehicle then take out the left sound insulator from its mounting position. First lower the intermediate Steering Shaft seal to reach the upper pinch bolt before you remove this bolt and detach the Steering Column connection from the intermediate Steering Shaft. To install the Steering Column first attach the intermediate Steering Shaft followed by upper pinch bolt installation at the Steering Column then tighten bolt to 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). Mount the Steering Column and elevate your vehicle before connecting the intermediate Steering Shaft to the power steering gear stub shaft. Then install the lower pinch bolt at the power steering gear stub shaft and complete your fastening efforts with a torque value of 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). After installing the intermediate Steering Shaft seal on the power steering gear lower the vehicle to reinstall the left sound insulator and withdraw the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640).
