Chevrolet Uplander Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Uplander?
    A:
Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) must insert into the Steering Column to lock it while the front wheels remain in a straight head position and the column remains in lock mode to avoid sir coil assembly damage. Move forward with bolt removal that holds the Steering Column then push it slightly toward the inside. After lifting the car set the intermediate shaft seal facing downward to reach the lower retention bolt. The power steering gear stub shaft receives its lower pinch bolt removal while technicians disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft from the power steering gear stub shaft. The technician removes the left sound insulator after lowering the vehicle. Access the upper pinch bolt by repositioning the intermediate Steering Shaft seal before removing both the upper pinch bolt and disconnecting the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column. Following connection of the intermediate Steering Shaft to the Steering Column install the upper pinch bolt at the Steering Column with a torque of 48 n.m (35 lb ft). Secure the intermediate Steering Shaft seal onto the Steering Column while maintaining vehicle stability with support. Then attach the intermediate Steering Shaft to the power steering gear stub shaft before screwing the lower pinch bolt at the power steering gear stub shaft. Finally, tighten this bolt to 48 n.m (35 lb ft). The last step includes placing the intermediate Steering Shaft seal onto the power steering gear and then lowering the vehicle to reinstall Steering Column bolts before installing the left sound insulator and removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) from the column.
