How to replace the brake drum on 2006 GMC Sierra 3500?

First remove the tire and wheel before taking off the rear Brake Drum retainer if needed. Apply some penetrating oil at the wheel studs wheel hub gear and Brake Drum before you start the removal process. If the Brake Drum does not budge reach through the rubber backing plate plug with two screwdrivers. Use one to push the adjuster lever away from the adjuster and the other to rotate the adjuster upwards until it locks in place. You should clean the Brake Drum connection area using the wheel hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A). Before placing the rear Brake Drum and wheel use the drum to Brake Shoe clearance gage (J 22364-01) to measure the drum space and correctly position the brake shoes.
