Q: How to Replace a Rear Brake Line on a Caliper on 2006 GMC Sierra 3500?
A: Vehicle service begins by elevating it with support then continuing with tire and wheel assembly removal. Begin by cleansing the brake hose and brake pipe fittings followed by plugging or capping the exposed brake pipe fitting ends to stop fluid loss. A back up wrench should be used on the hose fitting end to disconnect the brake pipe fitting that is attached to the brake hose while also applying a cap to the exposed fitting end. Disconnect the brake hose from the mounting bracket through removal of both the brake hose retaining clip and brake hose followed by separating the brake hose caliper bolt from the brake caliper and then removing the brake hose from the caliper. The 2 copper brake hose gaskets should get removed because they have possibly adhered to either the caliper or the hose end. You will need to install 2 brand-new copper brake hose gaskets when assembling the brake hose bolt to the brake hose. Lay two new washers onto the brake caliper before tightening the caliper bolt to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Install the brake hose into its bracket and lock it with the retaining clip before checking it does not touch suspension components or become twisted. Before you connect the brake pipe fitting nut to the brake hose through the hose fitting end, use a back up wrench on the fitting to tighten it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs) while ensuring the bracket and pipe stay straight. The hydraulic brake system needs bleeding followed by tire and wheel reinstallation and verification that the hose stays out of contact with wheel and suspension components. Lower the vehicle only after fixing any hose position issues that exist.
