2005 GMC Sierra 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Replace a Rear Brake Line on a Caliper on 2005 GMC Sierra 3500?
A: The procedure starts by suspending the vehicle and removing the tire together with the wheel assembly. First wipe all dirt from brake fittings and then fit rubber caps to brake pipe ends to stop fluid loss as well as debris contamination. After installing a hose fitting back up wrench against the brake hose port you can disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose while capping the open end of the pipe. Remove first the brake hose retaining clip from the mounting bracket to extract the brake hose from its bracket location. Disassemble and detach the brake hose from the caliper after removing its caliper bolt and discarding two copper brake hose gaskets. New copper brake hose gaskets must be used for installation by inserting them with the brake hose bolt to the brake hose. Screw the brake hose to caliper bolt through along with 2 new washers onto the brake caliper. Tighten the bolt to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Put the brake hose into the bracket before securing it through use of the retaining clip. You should remove rubber plugs from the brake pipe end where fitting occurs then use a back up wrench on hose fitting to connect brake fitting nut to brake hose. Following this connect the fitting end using 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque while being mindful not to bend bracket or pipe. First bleed the brake system's hydraulics then replace wheels and tires before verifying the hose is beyond suspension or wheel parts. You must remove the hose and address any problems before lowering the vehicle.
