2005 GMC Sierra 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What Tools Are Required to Replace the Front Brake Disc on 2500 - 3500 Series on 2005 GMC Sierra 3500?
A: The installation of front brake rotors for 2500 - 3500 series trucks needs both rotor resurfacing kit (J41013) and wheel hub resurfacing kit (J42450-A). Start the process by wiping off protective coverings from new rotors using denatured alcohol on their friction zones. Maintain the surface in a neat state. Start by removing the tire and wheel component followed by detached front wheel hub extension on dual-wheel automobiles. Prevent the rotor from rotating with a drift or large screwdriver before marking down the hub extension-hub matching positions. Tilt and remove the hub extension nuts and extension assembly by using a rubber mallet for proper extension removal. Inspect the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid until reaching the midway point then drain any fluid above this level. Establish the hub-extension-to-hub alignment by marking the rotor surface then apply force to the caliper pistons with two c-clamps. After separating the hydraulic brake hose keep the caliper bracket with the caliper as one assembly piece. Separate the rotor from the hub by removing brake rotor retaining push nuts then using a deadblow hammer. Clean the surfaces and apply penetrating oil followed by installation of two m10 x 1.5 bolts as force to separate the rotor from the hub. The wheel hub resurfacing kit (J42450-A) with rotor resurfacing kit (J41013) must be used by technicians to clean all rust and contaminants from both hub/axle flange and rotor mating surfaces before installation. Align the rotor before installing the hub flange when it has no nicks or marks. Measure the lro for the assembled setup and carry out adjustments when needed. Professional mechanics should clean caliper bolt threads before refitting the caliper parts using threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) then secure the caliper bracket bolts at 300 nm (221 ft. Lbs). Reinstall front wheel hub extensions of dual wheel vehicles by positioning them just like their original placement and tightening their nuts to 130 nm (96 ft. Lbs.). Finish the process by reinstalling the tire along with the wheel assembly while you should slowly apply pressure to the brake pedal to position the caliper pistons and pads. Complete the installation by filling the fluid reservoir with new brake fluid if necessary.
