    Q:
How to Replace a Rear Brake Line (Jounce) Safely on Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change the rear brake hose, first, lift and support the vehicle. Clean all the dirt and foreign materials from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings. Install a rubber cap or plug on to the exposed brake pipe fitting end to avoid loss and contamination of the brake fluid. Remove the hose fitting from brake pipe fitting by using a back up wrench (extend and cap or plug) the brake pipe fitting end. Take off the brake hose retaining clip from hose mounting bracket and remove the jounce hose from the bracket. Once again, a rubber cap or plug the exposed brake pipe ends to avoid brake fluid loss and contamination and then remove the rear brake pipe from the junction block of the rear axle and cap or plug the brake pipe ends. Remove bolt of retaining junction block from axle and remove brake hose from vehicle. For installation, align the reverse brake hose and screw the junction block retaining bolt to the axle as tight to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.). Remove the rear brake pipes, and attach the other side to the junction block of the axle and tighten the fitting to 25 Nm (n 18 ft. lbs.). Be sure that a hose is not twisted and does not touch any suspension components when installing the hose into bracket. Install the jounce hose retaining clip and remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end and connect the brake pipe fitting nut to the brake hose using a back up wrench on the hose fitting without bending the bracket or the pipe and tight it to the 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Make sure that the hose does not touch any elements of suspension; if it does, remuve hose and correct. Finally, bleed the hydraulic brake system and bring down the vehicle.

    Q:
How to Replace the Rear (Jounce) Brake Line on Chevrolet Silverado 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
First lift the car before cleaning all dirt and foreign items from the brake line fittings and hose. Apply a rubber seal to the brake pipe fitting to stop brake fluid from leaking and getting contaminated. Put a back up wrench on both pieces while you detach the brake hose pipe fitting from the brake system and cover the pipe fitting end. To remove the jounce hose from its bracket just unclip the brake hose holder and get the hose free from the mount. After plugging the exposed brake pipe ends seal the blocked brake pipe fitting on the junction block of the rear axle. One should first remove the axle junction block retaining bolt and then disconnect the brake hose from the vehicle. Start by attaching the brake hose to its mounting position before fixing the junction block retaining bolt to the axle at 22 Nm torque. Join the rear brake pipes with the junction block on the axle while tightening the connection to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Put the brake hose in place without allowing it to twist against suspension elements or touch the bracket. Fix the jounce hose clip in place before you disconnect the rubber cover and join the brake hose port to the brake pipe housing while holding the back up wrench tight. Keep the bracket and pipe straight while torquing the port nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Make sure the brake hose stays away from suspension parts when you install it into the bracket. Complete the process by draining fluid from the hydraulic brakes before putting the vehicle down.

How to Service and Repair Brake Lines Using the Pipe Flaring Tool Kit (J 45405) on GMC Sierra 3500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to service and repair the brake pipes use the required tools, i.e., Pipe Flaring Tool Kit (J 45405). Start by checking the area where the brake pipe is to be replaced and remove it from the retainers that it may require. If sectioning the brake pipe do it in a suitable place that providing enough clearance, during the maneuvering the J 45405 except bends or mounting points. Measure the pipe that is going to replace, and let it be the length that goes with the additional length according to the pipe diameter and required flares. 6.35mm(0.250in) in case of 4.76mm(3/16in),9.50mm(0.374in) in case of 6.35mm(1/4 in) and so on and so forth for 12.67mm(0.499)in case of 7.94mm(5/16 in). Use the pipe cutter attached to the J 45405 to cut off the brake pipe precisely, and subsequently eliminate the cut part of the pipe. Choose the right size of brake pipe & tube nut, stripping the n.yl coating at the end of the one to flare using J 45405., tool the end coated parts should not gouged metal surface, so work carefully. Chamfer the internal and external diameter of the tube using the de-burring tool present in the J 45405 after which the tube nuts should be installed, clean the brake pipe and the J 45405 of any impurities, and loosen the die clamping screw. Mount the respective die set in the die cage, insert the pre-prepared pipe end, and secure it with the tightening of the clamping screw. Use the appropriate forming mandrel and operate the lever of J 45405 to make the flare them insert the finishing cone and repeat the process. Inspection of flare for correct shape and diameter after loosening die clamping screw. 6.74-7.10mm (0.265-0.279in) for 4.76mm (3/16in), 8.57-9.27mm (0.344-0.358 in) for 6.35mm (1/4 in), and 10.42-10.79mm (0.410-0.425 in) for 7.94mm (5/16 in). Bend the new pipe with an appropriate brake pipe folding tool if needed, keep a clearance of 19mm (3/4in) from all moving parts when fitting and secure the brake pipe, to the retainers. Finally bleed the hydraulic brake system while engine running and brakes apply, inspect flares in brake pipe for leakage.
