Q: How to Replace a Rear Caliper Brake Line on 2002 Chevrolet Suburban 2500?
A: You should raise the vehicle and support it before you take off the tire and wheel assembly to work on the rear brake hose replacement. Clean away dirt from both ends of the brake hose and pipe. Close the pipe opening with a rubber plug to protect fluid and keep it clean. Place a back up wrench on the brake hose while using it to unscrew the brake pipe fitting from the hose end. When disconnected apply a cap to secure the brake pipe. Use your fingers to remove the brake hose retaining clip and take out the brake hose from its mounting position. Separate the caliper bolt from the brake caliper and discard the two copper gaskets which may be attached to the caliper or brake hose ends. To rebuild use two new copper gaskets with the brake hose bolt before adding nut and bolt assembly to the brake caliper-rear and tightening the bolt to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Position the brake hose away from suspension parts without twisting it. Unwind the brake hose into the mounting bracket and fasten it with the brake hose retaining clip. Use a back up wrench from the brake hose end to attach the brake hose and brake pipe. Hold the mounting bracket untouched under your fingers before tightening the brake pipe end to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Press out hydraulic brake fluid from the system then install the wheel back on while checking if the brake hose stays clear of suspension and tire parts; when necessary replace the brake hose.
