How to replace the thermostat on the 8.1L engine on 2006 GMC Sierra 3500?

To change the thermostat of the 8.1L engine drain the cooling system first. Unscrew the inlet hose and the hose that the water comes out of and detach water outlet and thermostat. Install the new thermostat, water outlet, screw the bolts, reattach the inlet hose and fill the cooling system.
