  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2007 Buick Lucerne?
    A: To do away with the Timing Chain and sprocket, start by removing the engine front cover. Get as close as possible to match the timing marks on the sprockets, loose the Timing Chain dampener bolt remove Timing Chain dampener. Then, extract the camshaft sprocket bolt; the camshaft sprocket and also the Timing Chain. If the sprocket will not come off easily, it may be best to give it a light blow along the bottom edge with a plastic mallet to get it to come off. Continue to take off the Crankshaft sprocket and the balance shaft drive gear, if need be, to reveal the camshaft thrust plate and its bolts. Clean and inspect all components for signs of wear and damage. If the pistons were shifted then turn the Crankshaft so that the number one Piston is at the top dead position and adjust the camshaft to place the timing mark directly on a straight down with the sprocket momentarily mounted. For installation, if needed, install the balance shaft driven gear and fortify the driven gear to the balance shaft by tightening the bolt to 22 n.m (16 lb ft) along with adjoing 70 degrees employing the torque angle meter (J 45059) and impede the balance shaft from computing. Mount the camshaft thrust plate and bolts, tighten to 15 n.m (11 lb ft), and balance shaft drive gear. Match up the timing marks on the balance shaft drive gear and the balance shaft driven gear, and install the Crankshaft sprocket and Timing Chain and sprocket with the timing marks as close together as possible. Cache the camshaft sprocket bolt to 100 n.m (74 lb ft) and an additional 90 degrees using the torque angle meter (J 45059) then install the Timing Chain dampener and tighten the bolt to 22 n.m (16 lb ft). After that, rotate the engine two rotations to measure a position of timing marks and after that, install the engine front cover.
